Bone grafting and sinus lift for dental implants:

Dental implants have become the preferred solution for replacing missing teeth because of their durability and natural appearance. However, successful implantation requires sufficient bone structure to support the implant. In cases where the jawbone has deteriorated or lacks the required density, bone grafting and sinus lift procedures are often recommended to increase bone volume and provide a solid foundation for implants. This comprehensive guide explores the intricacies of bone grafting and sinus lift, how to determine the need for these procedures, and how to assess the suitability of potential candidates.

Understanding bone grafting

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure in which bone material is added to the jaw to increase its volume and density and create a suitable environment for dental implants.

One of the goals of bone grafting is to restore bone volume. Bone grafting is primarily used to rebuild and restore bone volume lost due to tooth loss, periodontal disease, trauma or congenital conditions. Provides support for implants. Grafting provides a solid foundation for dental implants by strengthening the bone, ensuring their longevity and functionality.

Insufficient bone density is the main reason for this procedure.  Patients with insufficient bone density due to long-term tooth loss or periodontal disease may require bone grafting to create a solid implant site. Bone grafting can be used to increase the width and height of the jawbone ridge and provide better support for the implants.

Following tooth extraction, bone grafting can be used to protect the socket and prevent bone loss, preserving the jaw structure for future implant placement.

Bone grafting procedure

Initial assessment: A comprehensive evaluation, including dental X-rays and 3D scans, is performed to assess bone quality and determine the need for immunisation.

Surgical procedure: The selected graft material is placed in the target area and the area is secured with sutures. The graft integrates with the existing bone within a few months, providing a solid foundation for the implant.

Recovery time: The healing process usually takes three to six months, during which time the graft material fuses with the natural bone.

Understanding sinus lifts

A sinus lift or sinus augmentation is a surgical procedure that raises the sinus membrane and adds bone to the upper jaw, particularly in the area of the molars and premolars, to support dental implants.

One of the main purposes of sinus lifting is to increase bone height. Sinus lift procedures are performed to increase the vertical height of the bone in the upper jaw, making it possible to place implants in areas where the bone is insufficient due to its proximity to the sinus cavity.

Sinus lift makes implant placement easier. Sinus lift procedures provide a stable foundation for implants by creating additional bone, especially in the posterior maxilla where bone loss is common.

Types of sinus lift

Lateral window technique: This involves creating a small window next to the maxillary bone to access the sinus membrane; this window is slightly raised to allow the bone graft material to be placed underneath.

Transalveolar technique: Also known as the osteotome technique, this is a less invasive approach to lifting the sinus membrane through the alveolus and placing the graft material at the same time.

Indications for sinus lift

Low sinus floor: Patients with a naturally low sinus floor or with bone resorption in the maxilla may require a sinus lift to achieve sufficient bone height for implant placement.

Sinus proximity: When the sinus is too close to the jaw bone, a sinus lift is necessary to create enough space for implants without the risk of sinus perforation.

Sinus lift procedure

Initial assessment: Detailed imaging, including CBCT scans, is used to assess the anatomy of the sinus cavity and plan the augmentation procedure.

Surgical procedure: Depending on the technique chosen, the sinus membrane is carefully removed and bone graft material is placed in the newly created cavity.

Healing and integration: The grafted bone typically integrates over a period of six to nine months, after which implants can be placed.

Deciding about bone grafting and sinus lift for dental implants

The decision to have a bone graft or sinus lift depends on several factors, including the patient’s oral health, bone structure and specific requirements for implant placement. A thorough clinical examination by a qualified dentist is important to assess overall oral health and identify any underlying problems that may affect the procedure.  Advanced imaging techniques such as panoramic x-rays and CBCT scans provide detailed information on bone structure, sinus anatomy and potential areas of concern.

Consultation with a specialist in implant dentistry or oral surgery can provide valuable information about the need for bone grafting or sinus lift. The specialist will review the diagnostic images and clinical findings to recommend the most appropriate course of action. A personalised treatment plan will be developed outlining the recommended procedures, expected outcomes and timeline for each step of the process.

Assessment of bone graft suitability

Bone quality and quantity: Bone graft candidates must have areas of the jaw with insufficient bone density or volume to support the implant. This is usually determined by imaging and clinical assessment.

Health considerations: Patients must be in good general health and have no uncontrolled medical conditions that could adversely affect healing, such as diabetes or immune disorders.

Graft material preference: Discussing the types of graft materials and their benefits with the clinician will help to select the option that best suits the patient’s needs.

Sinus lift suitability assessment

Sinus Anatomy: Sinus lift candidates should have a low sinus floor or insufficient bone height in the maxilla, as determined by imaging studies.

Health and healing capacity: Good general health and a strong healing capacity are essential for a successful sinus lift. Patients should be free of chronic sinus infections or conditions that could complicate the procedure.

Procedure preference: Understanding the different techniques (lateral window vs. transalveolar) and their benefits and risks can help patients make an informed decision in consultation with their dentist.

Potential risks and complications

As with any surgical procedure, bone grafting and sinus lift have potential risks and complications. Understanding these risks can help patients make an informed decision and prepare for the procedure:

Risks of bone grafting

Infection There is a risk of infection at the graft site, which can be controlled with antibiotics and appropriate postoperative care.

Graft rejection: Although rare, there is a possibility that the body may reject the graft material, especially with allografts or xenografts.

Nerve damage: Careful surgical technique is important to avoid nerve damage, especially in the mandible where the inferior alveolar nerve is located.

Risks of sinus lift

Perforation of the sinus membrane: There is a risk of perforation of the sinus membrane during the procedure, which can lead to complications such as sinusitis or infection. Experienced surgeons take steps to minimise this risk.

Infection: As with bone grafting, there is a risk of infection, which can be minimised with antibiotics and appropriate care.

Implant failure: In rare cases, implants may not integrate with the grafted bone and additional procedures may be required.

Postoperative care and recovery

Proper post-operative care is critical to the success of bone grafting and sinus lift procedures. Here are the most important aspects of care and recovery:

Postoperative instructions

Medication: Patients may be prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection and painkillers to relieve discomfort. It is important to take your medication as directed.

Dietary guidelines: A soft diet is recommended for the first few days to minimise pressure on the surgical site. Avoiding hard, crunchy or spicy foods will help prevent irritation and promote healing.

Oral hygiene practices

Gentle cleaning: Patients should maintain good oral hygiene by gently brushing their teeth and avoiding the surgical site. Rinsing with a saline solution or recommended mouthwash can help keep the area clean.

Avoid irritants: Patients should avoid smoking, alcohol and vigorous rinsing as these can delay healing and increase the risk of complications.

Follow-up appointments

Regular check-ups: Follow-up appointments with the dentist are important to monitor the healing process and ensure that the graft or sinus is healing.

It integrates well with the existing bone.

Implant placement: When the grafted bone is sufficiently healed, the dentist will place dental implants. This is usually done three to nine months after the initial procedure, depending on the type of graft or sinus lift performed.

Symptoms of complications

Monitoring symptoms: Patients should watch for signs of complications such as excessive swelling, persistent pain, fever or discharge from the surgical site and report these symptoms to the dentist immediately.

Bone grafting and sinus lift are necessary procedures to improve the success of dental implants in patients with insufficient bone structure. These procedures increase the volume and height of the bone to provide a solid foundation for the implants, ensuring their longevity and functionality. Determining the need for bone grafting or sinus lift requires a thorough evaluation by a qualified dentist, including clinical examination and advanced imaging.

Suitability for these procedures depends on factors such as bone quality, sinus anatomy, general health and specific dental needs. Understanding the risks, benefits and aftercare is crucial to achieving successful and long-lasting results.

By following a carefully planned treatment strategy and adhering to post-operative care guidelines, patients can achieve the best results with dental implants and restore both function and aesthetics to their smile.

After the term Myer’s Turkey Teeth became popular, Kindly was one of the first celebrities to come to Turkey for dental treatment, and many other celebrities visited Turkey. Unlike many famous internet celebrities, Kindly was a person who attracted attention with her beauty and aesthetic teeth even before she reached millions of followers.

In 2024, Kindly started to receive great interaction on the X platform with 700K+ followers. As Dentafly, we are very happy to have completed Kindly’s laminate veneer project. We were very happy when we invited Kindly to our dental clinic in Turkey in 2022. In addition, Kindly was so friendly during the photo shoot and during the 3 days she spent in the clinic that all the employees and the people she moved to outside the clinic thought she had a perfect heart.

Kindly had doubts about the term Turkey teeth, just like Jack Fincham, but after seeing how meticulously dentists in Turkey work and the technologies they use, she couldn’t hide her surprise.

Kindly has also received work offers from many companies in Turkey, but she is postponing them due to her busy schedule. Kindly said she wanted to have her teeth shaped differently around 2025, and we think she will make another work schedule for Turkey during this period.

There are many dental clinics in Turkey and many accounts from people who travelled for treatment. Outcomes differ because the products differ: some clinics work with low-cost implants and prosthetic materials, or spend on advertising rather than on the laboratory, and that shows up years later rather than on the invoice. For full mouth work the three things worth confirming before you book are the implant brand, what is actually included, and the warranty in writing. Everything on this page is stated so you can check us against those three.

Prosthetic Materials: BioHPP Hybrid or Monolithic Zirconia

The teeth on top matter as much as the implants underneath. BioHPP is a reinforced high-performance polymer with an elasticity closer to bone than metal, so it absorbs part of the chewing force instead of passing all of it to the fixtures. In Toronto hybrid designs each tooth is crowned individually, which means better shade control and a repair that touches one unit rather than the whole arch, and there is no metal taste or grey line at the gum. Monolithic zirconia is milled as a single piece: harder, highly stain resistant, and quicker to deliver, though less forgiving under load and repaired as a bridge rather than tooth by tooth. Neither is universally better; the choice follows your bite force, bone and how you want the restoration serviced in ten years.

Antalya Patient Reviews and Case Highlights

Patients most often report that chewing returns first and speech settles within days to a few weeks, and that satisfaction tracks how carefully the occlusion was planned rather than how much was spent. Read the verified third-party reviews below and judge for yourself.

How to Choose a Full-Mouth Package

  • Verified reviews on Trustpilot and Google, plus before and after galleries of full-arch cases rather than veneers
  • Brand transparency: certificates and lot numbers on request, so you can confirm what was placed
  • Warranty clarity: implants and prosthesis are covered separately and for different periods
  • In-house laboratory, which decides how fast temporaries arrive and how precisely the finals fit
  • Travel logistics in writing: hotel, transfers, interpreter, and what happens if you need an extra day
  • Aftercare in your own country, which is the item most packages leave out entirely

Full Mouth Restoration or Full Mouth Implants

Full mouth restoration is the wider term: crowns or veneers on natural teeth, root canal treatment, and rebuilding the bite where it has collapsed. Full mouth implants come in when the teeth are past saving, and give you a fixed arch on four to eight fixtures with temporaries the same week and the definitive prosthesis after healing. If some of your own teeth are sound, say so at the planning stage, because a mixed plan is often cheaper and more conservative than clearing an arch.

All-on-4, All-on-6, All-on-8 and When Zygomatic Implants Are Indicated

  • All-on-4: the efficient route where bone allows it, and the most affordable at £3,302 per arch
  • All-on-6: two extra fixtures spread the load more widely, £4,035 per arch, preferred in wider arches and heavier bites
  • All-on-8: selected for long spans with good bone volume, quoted after the scan
  • Zygomatic implants: for severe upper jaw atrophy, anchoring in the cheekbone instead of grafting; a specialist protocol, quoted case by case
  • Cost difference: the configuration drives the total more than anything else, and our All-on-4 versus All-on-6 comparison sets out how each choice changes the figure

Timeline, Visits and Warranty

  • Visit one, three to seven days: extractions where needed, implant placement, immediate temporary teeth
  • Healing, twelve to sixteen weeks: osseointegration and soft tissue maturation, reviewed remotely or at our London clinic
  • Visit two, five to ten days: definitive zirconia or BioHPP hybrid prosthesis, with the bite refined over several appointments
  • Warranty: lifetime international cover on the implants under the manufacturer’s policy, and eight years on crowns, veneers and laminate veneers

Antalya Travel and Logistics

Packages include airport pick-up, a hotel close to the clinic, VIP transfers and interpreter support. Antalya airport is roughly twenty minutes from us, which matters when a treatment week holds several appointments; the same journey in Istanbul routinely takes an hour each way.

Which Implant Brands Are Used in Antalya Packages

The premium systems we place most often are Straumann and Hiossen, alongside Neodent. All three support immediate restoration protocols because of their surface technology, which is what makes predictable osseointegration possible on a travel schedule.

SLActive, Straumann

Produced by large-grit sandblasting followed by acid etching, SLActive combines macro and micro roughness so bone cells attach faster. In suitable cases this shortens the integration window and makes immediate loading more predictable, which is why it appears in most of our full-arch plans where the bone is sound.

ET III NH System, Hiossen

A bioresorbable apatite nano-coating of roughly ten nanometres raises surface hydrophilicity and early bone-to-implant contact. The reported effect is better initial stability and cell response, which supports immediate or early loading where case selection is right.

Full Mouth Implants in Turkey: Frequently Asked Questions

How much do full mouth implant packages cost in Antalya?

All-on-4 is £3,302 for a single arch and £6,604 for both jaws. All-on-6 is £4,035 per arch and £8,071 for both. Premium builds with individually crowned teeth on Straumann BLX run to £18,208 and £19,336 for both jaws. Send your X-ray or CBCT and the quote is fixed.

Are hotel and VIP transfers included?

Yes. Four or five star hotel with breakfast for your treatment days, and return VIP transfers between the airport, the hotel and the clinic. Companions can stay at the same negotiated rate.

How many implants are needed for a complete set of teeth?

Four to eight per arch, decided from bone height, width and density on your CT scan rather than from a price list. Some patients are candidates for the 3-on-6 concept, which restores an arch with three separate bridges on six implants.

How many visits do I need and how long do I stay?

Two visits. Three to seven days for surgery and temporary teeth, then twelve to sixteen weeks of healing at home, then five to ten days for the definitive prosthesis.

All-on-4 or All-on-6, which is better?

Both give you a fixed arch. All-on-6 spreads the load across two extra fixtures, which suits wider arches and heavier bites, but it needs the bone volume to carry them. The scan decides, not the budget.

Can implants be placed in a day?

Where the case allows it, implants and a temporary fixed bridge go in on the same day. The definitive prosthesis is fitted after healing. See our guide to same-day implants.

How long do implants placed in Turkey last?

With good hygiene, regular checks and professional aftercare, high quality implants last decades. Longevity depends on gum health, bite forces and maintenance, which is why the London follow-up matters more than most patients expect.

Ready for Your Full Mouth Restoration?

Dentafly Antalya is a dental hospital with its own laboratory, imaging and anaesthesia team under one AACI-accredited roof, and a London clinic for everything that comes after. Send an X-ray and you will have a written plan with a fixed price. If your case involves rebuilding the bite as well as replacing teeth, see our full mouth reconstruction costs page.
